The Center is dedicated to the study of anatomic pathology
and histology of the heart including the conduction system
that will be useful to the cardiology community at large.
Our collection of more than 9200 congenitally malformed
hearts is a national resource that may be beneficial to
cardiac surgeons and cardiologists in their practice.
Dr. Bharati is considered as one of the world authorities in
pathology of congenital heart disease and the conduction
system of the heart. She has authored or co-authored more
than 400 publications on the above subjects in peer reviewed
journals including the following 3 original books:

The Center provides :

pathology to the national and world wide community

Education to all interested students
of congenital heart disease

Research programs to provide new
knowledge in the field of congenital heart disease

Research in the field of the cardiac
conduction system (arrhythmias) by means of serial section
examination, including sudden death in the young, the
healthy and asymptomatic individual

Research opportunities are available
to all those interested in the above areas.
We welcome residents, fellows, attending physicians in
Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, pathologists and forensic
medical examiners to spend 1 to 4 weeks in the Center to
study hearts in our collection and to participate in the
clinical conferences at The Heart Institute for Children as
well as to accompany Dr. Bharati to conferences given at the
various University Hospitals in Metropolitan Chicago.
