Cardiac Molecular Biology

The Molecular Biology Research Program at THIC investigates the molecular mechanisms critically relevant to heart formation and cardiac function. Research is aimed at identifying the regulatory factors involved in cardiac-specific expression of genes encoding contractile proteins, and elucidating the molecular processes responsible for heart failure from overload. The program is also developing gene therapy for ventricular dysfunction associated with end-stage heart failure.

Our research is funded by the physicians of The Heart Institute for Children, the medical staff of Christ Hospital and Medical Center, The Children's Heart Foundation as well as National Institutions.
